We’re looking for an experienced Account Director who has a history of establishing, maintaining, and growing effective and profitable client relationships.
The Account Director will oversee one or more large and multi-faceted accounts at Owen Jones, working to understand the client’s business needs and ensure our internal creative teams drive successful client projects. This position works closely with our producer team and reports to the Executive Director of Accounts. Experience working within a matrixed organization is highly encouraged but not required.
Salary Range: $100,000 to $115,000
Areas if Responsibility
- Maintain and organically grow existing client relationships that result in continued growth and profit opportunities for Owen Jones. Increase Owen’s client base by establishing new relationships through RFP or organic outreach.
- Develop, in partnership with the client and our internal team leads, a clearly defined brief and proposal ensuring the creative team (including content, strategy, and technology teams) can meet or exceed strategic expectations.
- Accurately craft a Statement of Work with a solid understanding of possible deliverables articulated and defined within the scope.
- Collaborate with the project leads to determine project scope and estimate level of effort against the client budget. Manage Statements of Work, including change orders as necessary, keeping in close contact with project producer to ensure project is staying within scope. Scan the horizon for longer-tail opportunities.
- Support and challenge both the client and the agency to push creative solutions to unique business challenges, with a clear understanding of client’s objectives and target audience. Good ideas come from strong relationships with our clients, and this role is at the heart of that relationship.
- Partner with creative and project leads to plan and present creative proposals or work to clients, advocating for the client’s perspective when they aren’t in the room.
- Effectively manage communication between client stakeholders and internal teams to ensure seamless creative outcome and launch.
- Day to day leadership and oversight of any Account team members who will potentially report to you. Management responsibilities include including regular 1 on 1’s, performance and salary reviews, career and professional growth, and conflict remediation/elevation.
- Implementation of new management practices as directed by HR and/or upper leadership.
Areas of Influence
- Work closely with project Team Leads to ensure clear understanding and expectations of the work.
- Understand the client’s needs and act as the voice of the client to the internal team.
- Work closely with the Producer to ensure account health.
- Partner with Producers to create new statements of work, organically growing the account footprint at Owen Jones.
- Work closely with the Creative Director to track creative team progress, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Work closely with the Exec Director of Accounts to ensure bandwidth across projects, clients, and potential new business opportunities.
- Partner with the new business team to develop proposals, pitch, and drive new business efforts.
Areas of Growth
- Contribute to agency thought leadership.
- Thoroughly understand your client’s business and bring high-level strategic thinking to client partnerships.
- Continuous training and development in emotional intelligence, emotional regulation, people leadership, people management, mentorship, and equity and inclusion including power and privilege awareness.
Desired Skills:
- 5+ years of experience as an account lead in an agency environment, with at least 2 years owning and growing large complex client relationships.
- Experience collaborating with teams across strategy, design, technology, environment, and content project types, and knowledge of/curiosity about best practices across emerging markets.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in a team and client setting.
- Ability to conceptualize and write clear statements of work for new interactive, digital, and branding projects.
- Ability to develop an environment of trust and respect not only for the client relationship, but in relationships with internal project teams.
- Experience with web-based technologies, including a thorough understanding of the technical and creative content development lifecycles, standards, and best practices.
- Experience leading design, production design, brand development, and other similar creative projects.
